my story

Designer. Marketing Expert. Reader. Writer. Editor

If I could describe myself in six words, I'd use mine wisely. My story isn't about me. It's about you. It's about what I can do for you. With a BBA in Advertising & Communications from a renowned business school and a passion for books, I created a strategy to help every author. Oh, and I didn't just come up with it overnight.

I have over four years of experience helping authors edit and publish their books. Authors who have gone on to become #1 Amazon Bestsellers, #1 Amazon New Releases, and #1 Barnes & Noble Bestsellers.

And I have nine years of experience in helping small businesses start with their best foot forward. I didn't just design their logo. I created an identity they could use to successfully run their business.

I will always be a reader first. That means I understand your market. I know what readers want.

As an editor, I am not rewriting your book. I am not changing your book. I am bringing the best parts of you and the best parts of what your book is and blending it seamlessly. Maybe we have to break a few eggs. I can only promise, it will be better for it.

For the last six years, I surrounded myself with a group of incredible women. Authors just like you. Not only did they support my journey, but we helped each other.

Through my experience, I learned that authors need peace of mind. You wanted to become an author to write books. Let me help you write more and worry less. With a plan and strategy to take your book from the first step to the last. Brand Your Book with fm

EDITING

FAQs

What type of editing is available for authors? What do each of them include?

There are three types of edits: Developmental Editing, Line/Copy Edits, and Proofreading. And the unofficial fourth is Book Coaching.

Developmental Edits are the edits that cover story structure and characters. This is the first type of editing any story will go through. It covers everything from your plot to your pacing and character progression.

Line/Copy Edits are the edits that cover redundant phrasing, sentence structure and flow, and correct usage of words and phrases.

Proofreading is the edit that only covers grammar and typos. (e.g. missing commas, misspelled words) This is the very last type of editing you will get.

Book Coaching is a collaborative relationship where your editor helps you through writing your novel. They are your cheerleader. They will primarily give advice toward helping your story structure and character development.

I am currently only offering Developmental Editing, Book Coaching, and Line/Developmental Edits to new clients.

Do you offer Sample Edits?

Yep! I offer a FREE 1000 word sample edit of your choice. I highly recommend giving me the first 1000 words, no prologues. Why? Prologues aren't usually a guaranteed indication of the voice and structure of your book.

What genres do you edit?

My specialty is in YA/NA/Adult Fantasy and Fantasy Romance (Paranormal Romance included), YA/NA/Adult Science Fiction. Still, I do take on YA/NA Contemporary Romance, Erotica, and Historical Romance from time to time . I also do Reverse Harems! I have a special place in my heart for Fae, Enemies to Lovers, and Villainous Love Interests if you were wondering, but I love anything fantasy truly.

My hard passes are books in the horror, contemporary, and literary fiction genre. (Please be aware this is OUTSIDE of the fantasy genre.) I will consider thrillers and mysteries on a case-by-case basis. I edit commercial fiction.

I do not edit third omniscient books. This means the narrator is ALL KNOWING. I do edit first and third limited. Third limited means one character's/characters' POV using he/she/they pronouns. If you're still confused about the difference, be sure to ask me!

Do you edit spice? What are your triggers?

I LOVE SPICE! Give me all the scenes. BDSM is fine! See my triggers below.

My triggers/no nos include (for a variety of reasons): Pedophilia, Rape (Closed door and mentions are okay! Just not detailed scenes), Extreme kinks such as knife play, monster romances (If you're asking if your book counts because you have werewolves or fae, you don't have a monster romance😉), dubious consent (like super dubious borderline Rape), Animal Abuse, [this more of a horror case] Satanism (Like anything super occult and pentagrams etc. Witchy vibes are totally cool in a fantasy setting but not hardcore witchcraft. Biblical references/inspired lore is completely fine. Greek Mythology (Hades) completely fine!), Domestic Abuse by a love interest, and Cannibalism.

If you are unsure if your book has any of the above, please message or email me. I am more than happy to clarify anything you're unsure of. I make exceptions on a case-by-case basis depending on how it is written.

What do you offer as an Editor?

I think it's important to know what type of Editor I am. I work in commercial fiction. That means fiction that is popular and appeals to a general audience. In addition to editing and understanding story craft, I also have a BBA in Advertising & Marketing Communications. I do not withhold information like a gremlin. You as my client are entitled to that information. Your success is important to me. So I will offer advice that will help make your book more "marketable" and "commercially successful" because if you are hiring me as an author you want the best possible foot forward for your book. I keep in mind what readers will say, what's been written before, and how your book will translate to other readers. If you like more of an experimental type of writing style and plot structure, more power to you! I love that and will support you 100%, but we might not be a good fit. I might not give advice that will give you the vision you want. The relationship between an Editor and an Author is an intimate one. Your book is an extension of your soul, and my advice is always said with the best of intentions so that your book can be understood and beloved by many. I also LOVE collaboration. Speaking and talking through things with authors are my favorite part of my job. Recommending books and comps that might be helpful. All that and more is what I offer to you. If this sounds appealing to you as an author, we would be an awesome fit. If this sounds concerning, I might not be the best editor for you, and there are so many editors out there who might fit better with what you want.

If I am dissatisfied with my editing, what do you do?

Communication. I think that's the root of the failure of every kind of relationship. And we have a relationship if you become a client of mine. Tell me you don't like something. Help me understand how best to accommodate you. Remember I am here for you! Also I am human, so I will make mistakes. If you feel I did not do a good job or you are dissatisfied with something, I just want to talk. I am open to feedback, and will do my best to make sure you are 100% satisfied with my work.

Do you offer Payment Plans?

I do! I think accommodating any author in a financial situation is important to me. While my rates are my rates, I can make accommodations to fit any financial situation that arises. Editing is an integral part of a book's journey. I want to do my best to help you afford the packages. Please email me for options!

Do you charge a deposit to book?

I do with the signing of a contract. Any and all bookings are not held or finalized till BOTH are done. This is a strict policy from me. It protects both parties in any situation. I currently charge a 25% deposit . If you cannot afford the deposit in one shot, I can make some accommodations. Just email me.

Best way to contact you?

Please email me at faemance@gmail.com or fill out the quote form at the bottom of this page. I respond to Instagram and Tiktok DMs, but I might not immediately see requests.

**Plot Package (The Ultimate Developmental Package):** This is a special package for people who want a collaborative or a close working relationship with their Editor. This package is ONLY for YA/NA/Adult Fantasy & Fantasy Romance writers. Depending on your genre, I may be able to make accommodations if this is a package that interests you.

It includes up to six 1-on-1 video calls over the course of 6-8 weeks. This time frame is based on the average time most authors want or require. If you'd like more time/more calls, I can adjust the pricing and package accordingly.

I work with you closely over emails, DMs, and google docs. Whichever method is your preference! All three or just one. I read what you have over a period of three weeks. If not, then we begin right away from the point of your booking date. This can work as a pre-developmental or rewrite developmental package. This means we wont be doing line edits or proofing. Those are separate edits. All our time together is spent talking about your plot, characters, pacing, etc.

We will brainstorm and talk about your overall plot structure. We will make a schedule to go through and make changes to your manuscript together and have check ins. I will go over and come up with an outline and go over and read chapters. I will offer general notes over call or email. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about marketing your book from covers to blurbs. Blurb Editing is included in this package.

$3500

If you would like In-Line Developmental Edits alongside your Plot Package, I have a special price for it.

$5000 up to 125K words.

I will no longer be offering Character Therapy, but will be fused into the Plot Package.

I will instead offer:

Sample Package (The Starter Developmental Package): This is a special package I am including where I will sit with you for an hour in a video call and we can go over your characters and story. We can discuss anything related to your story. I do NOT read anything in advance. Any reading in preparation for a meeting, would be billed at the hourly rate separate from the actual meeting. One chapter (2.5K words) takes me two to three hours on average to read and create detailed notes on for a meeting. Should you decide to upgrade to a full Plot Package, this cost is removed from your total. You may also use this package if you'd like blurb editing to be added to any current package you have!

I have booked Hina Babar with Faemance on multiple projects. She is an exceptional editor and I will be using her exclusively on all future projects. I struggled searching for an editor who would be a good fit for me and my story and provide one on one feedback. When I found Hina she blew my expectations out of the water. What makes her exceptional is her absolute command of story and structure. She has a deep understanding of the nuances readers will be looking for. She shows you exactly how to strengthen your story. What to cut and what to polish, all while maintaining your story's identity. And that was so important to me. On top of it all, she is kind and genuine and wants to see you succeed. You could not ask for a better person on your team. She helped me transform my debut novel. I would not have the story I have now without her. If you're looking to take your novel to the next level get this woman in your corner!
